Guatemalan Shawls ~ Rebozos ~ Perrajes
The perraje (or shawl) is an important part of the Maya woman's attire. Especially in the highland communities where the evenings can be quite cool a shawl is necessary protection. The shawl is usually worn in the typical, "over the shoulders" manner, but sometimes it is draped over the head as well. Perrajes are also used as a baby sling by the Maya women. Commonly both ends have fringe, large tassles or even pompoms are seen, though some shawls are quite simple with no fringe at all. For more infomation regarding Guatemalan textiles click here.
